Key Takeaways from the Baltimore Ravens Win over the New York Jets

Updated: 4 days ago

My Quick Takeaways from the Ravens victory over the New York Jets.

It certainly wasn’t pretty for the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon, but somehow the game ended with Lamar Jackson taking snaps in victory formation.

  1. Dre'Mont Jones has been exactly what the Doctor ordered.

    1.  I’ve been critical of GM Eric DecCsta in recent weeks, especially given the state of the trenches, but it seems as if he knew what he was doing when he dialed up the Tennessee Titans and took Jones off their hands. He finished the game with 2 sacks, which I believe has implications on which compensation pick we traded if we do make the playoffs, but FUCK those picks. The tandem of "DRE'MONT GREEN" is something to be scared of as this defense continues to improve.

  2. Lamar Jackson is nowhere near healthy, but the offense is not helping him.

    1. It may not be a surprise to anyone who has watched the Ravens injury report the last 3 weeks, but Lamar is still dealing with lingering issues from a number of injuries. He shows signs of life at times, but we are going to need to rely on Todd Monken to dial up more in structure plays while he gets back to his MVP form. Multiple times throughout the game last week, Lamar would roll out to the right and only have 2 less than stellar options out on routes. Admittedly, I need to take a deeper look into the film to see what the scheme was, but I don't often love when Tylan Wallace is option 1 in the red zone.

  3. Emory Jones is going to take somebody’s job, but I don’t think people are going to like the answer.

    1. I, along with the rest of the fanbase, have been openly critical of Daniel Faalele for the majority of his career for his overall lack of athleticism. While I still stand behind everything I said, don’t be surprised if it’s Andrew Vorhees who starts being rotated with Emory Jones, a 3rd round rookie out of LSU. Jones is recovering from an injury in the offseason, but dressed for the first time this week. After 12 weeks of poor offensive line play and a plethora of injuries to Lamar Jackson, time is ticking for one of the guards and it’s a welcome sight for Ravens fans.

  4. Kyle Hamilton is being asked to do too much, but he keeps doing it.

    1. Every single person in this fanbase pretty much worships the ground that Kyle Hamilton walks on, and rightly so. But he’s been playing all over the field in a number of different roles, including Safety, LB, Edge, and DT in recent weeks. As much as he is part of the machine that makes the defense go, he’s also giving up a lot of weight on the inside and has been spending more & more time in the injury tent in recent weeks. Hopefully with the growth of Mike Green & the return of some key injured players in coming weeks, Kyle can find a way to get a bit more rest between position changes.

  5. John Metchie deserves it all.

    1. After a rough couple years in Houston and a battle with cancer, it’s awesome to see the talent of John Metchie finally show through. On Sunday, you could see the reason Metchie was such a standout WR in a star–studded WR room in college. Hopefully the Jets can find a franchise QB to find Metchie, Wilson, and AD Mitchell next year.

The Ravens have some work to do offensively & a short week to rest up, as they take on freshly back from injury Joe Burrow and the struggling Cincinnati Bengals (3-8) this Thanksgiving.
